5 Reasons Why You’re Not Burning Fat!

This is probably the most common question I’ve been asked over the past 7 years.

“How Do I Burn Fat?”

And although everyone want’s ONE SECRET TECHNIQUE that will solve their problem… It doesn’t work like that.

It’s actually an accumulation of actions that lead to burning fat, and there is also an accumulation of actions that lead to gaining fat also.

So I want to cover 5 of the reasons why you might not be able to burn fat!



Question: Does your healthy routine get thrown out the window on weekends?

Binging eating is when you eat healthy all week, prepare your meals, drink lots of water, and then the weekend comes around, and you eat all sorts of shit that sets you back. It’s surprising to some people how 5 days of good eating can be completely wiped out by a weekend of over indulging with binge eating.



Question: Do you drink water?

If you answered NO, you probably NEVER get thirsty. Is this true for you? This is strangely what happens when you’re dehydrated, and this shuts down your body’s ability to burn fat. Your entire metabolism slows down without hydration. At a minimum, I recommend 1 Litre of water for every 25kgs of body weight.



Are you a fiend for sugar? It’s addictive. The more you have, the more you want! When you have a high sugar diet, you NEVER burn fat. Why? Because you have 2 primary energy systems. 1. Sugar 2. Fat. Your body prefers to burn sugar for instant energy, as it’s the easiest option for your body to do. So that is the first option. The second option is to convert stored body fat to fuel, however you can only unlock this energy system with zero sugar stores. Which most people don’t do.



Question: Do you always crave carbs?

That’s because carbs are also addictive. And the little known fact about carbs, is that your body converts carbohydrates into sugar to use it as energy. Essentially, Carbs have the exact same response in your body as Sugar does. You can’t burn fat while eating shitloads of carbs!



Question: Do you eat breakfast?

If you do, there’s a good chance this is destroying your ability to burn fat. Contrary to popular belief, BREAKFAST IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY! It’s actually the worst meal to eat. (I know, shocking) Why is this? Because for most people, the common breakfast menu is loaded with sugars and carbs. Such as cereal, toast, milk, fruit, yoghurt, pancakes etc… And this sets you up for cravings, getting hungry in 60 to 90 minutes after eating, experiencing energy fluctuations, and it shuts down your ability to burn stored fat for fuel. Try switching your carby/sugary breakfast for water only up until lunch time. Tune in to how you feel from it. I guarantee it will be a positive experience.
